A devotional meeting is an important part of Bahá’í community life, and offered as a service to the wider community.
At a devotional meeting, Bahá'ís and their friends come together for inspiration, relaxation and worship. Corresponding with Bahá'í belief, there is no congregation-type worship or ritual. People attending are welcome to simply sit, meditate and enjoy the relaxing, spiritual atmosphere or participate by reciting some of the readings or prayers.
Programmes are based around a selection of prayers and readings from the Bahá’í Writings, and often from the Writings of other religions, accompanied by uplifting music.

What is prayer?
‘Abdu’l-Bahá said that "Man must live in a state of prayer. The most blessed condition is the condition of prayer and supplication.
In the highest prayer, men pray only for the love of God, not because they fear Him or hell, or hope for bounty or heaven... The spiritual man finds no delight in anything save in commemoration of God."
For Bahá’ís, this does not mean living in devotional austerity or seclusion. It means carrying the attitudes of prayer – faith, detachment from material things and purity from ego – into normal daily life.
"The spirit of man is itself informed and strengthened during meditation... Through it he receives Divine inspiration, through it he receives heavenly food." -‘Abdu’l-Bahá
